Sodium chlorite ( NaClO 2 ) is an inorganic chemical compound belonging to the chlorite group. Its main application is the production of an aqueous solution of ClO2 produced by the reaction of sodium chlorite with hydrochloric acid. The resulting chlorine dioxide is a strong disinfectant compound, especially often used to combat Legionella and E. coli bacteria.
Sodium chlorite has fungicidal, virucidal and bactericidal properties , so it is widely used for purifying and disinfecting drinking and utility water, as well as for disinfecting water in technological processes, swimming pools and water parks, i.e. wherever it is necessary to obtain disinfected water. Sodium chlorite is one of the most effective chemical raw materials for wastewater treatment.
Sodium chlorite - industry and agriculture
Sodium chlorite is also used as a bleaching agent , often used in textiles and printing, e.g. for bleaching cotton, linen, synthetic fibers, cellulose pulp and even materials made of bamboo. It is also used to produce household chemicals, such as bleach and curtain salts.
In agriculture, sodium chlorite and sodium hypochlorite , due to their properties, are used to disinfect breeding surfaces intended for animals, and also as a preventive fungicide in agricultural crops. For more chemical products, please contact our consultant
